Bahar looking for backers for Lotus buyout?

After the purchase of Lotus’s parent company, Proton, from the Malaysian government by DRB-Hicom, the Malaysian auto group owned by billionaire Syed Mokhtar, the Sunday Times featured a story today suggesting that current CEO Dany Bahar may be attempting to raise funds for a buyout of the company.

Since the sale of Proton it has been widely rumoured that DRB-Hicom may be looking to offload the Norfolk based company, and if so it seems likely that Bahar will be competing with Genii Capital who owns a stake in the Lotus F1 team and have reportedly been carrying out due diligence on the firm ahead of a possible purchase.
