SELOC Motorsport
Our member base has a large involvement across most disciplines of motor sport starting at the grass roots level of karting, autosolos and sprinting, extending up to circuit racing in national and international race series.
As a MSA member club, SELOC actively promotes participation and strives to provide the opportunity for new comers to get involved; be that in a competitive sense or within the marshalling and running of events.

SELOC Speed Championship
In order to continue our pursuit of encouraging participation in grass roots motorsport we have now established an MSA approved national speed championship. Seeing a gap in the market and with no dedicated Lotus sprint series this championship has primarily been established as a single make series open to all paid up members of SELOC.
The aim of this is to provide a fun but competitive entry into motorsport and we want to appeal to those that have never sprinted before and also to those that are more seasoned hands.
The Championship is open to all Lotus cars, other vehicles will be approved on a case by case basis (VX220s are acceptable).
It is a handicapped series that is based on a vehicles power to weight ratio. This is in order to try and level the playing field and allow anyone from a standard K Series Elise up to the big horsepower engine converted cars to be competitive against each other.
Rounds will take place at the following sprint events:
18/3/12 – North Weald
24/3/12 – Castle Combe
28/4/12 – Goodwood
3/6/12 – Snetterton
9/6/12 – Abingdon
23/6/12 – Castle Combe
5/8/12 – Hethel
16/9/12 – Curborough
7/10/12 – Debden
Competitors will be split into one of 3 categories:
Class A: Normally aspirated road legal factory cars
Class B: Forced induction road legal factory cars
Class C: Engine converted cars (i.e. Audi, Honda, Duratec), non road legal and invited cars (i.e VX220)
The regulations above contain full details of the prizes for overall winner and class winners and how the Championship will run.
You can join the Championship at any point throughout the year.

Autosolos
Autosolos have been a favourite in the US for years, and were introduced to the UK by Bristol Motor Club in 2003. They are a combination of Sprinting and Autotests, and are run on prepared surfaces. Cars run one at a time against the clock on a short course that lays emphasis on car handling and agility rather than speed or power. No reversing is involved, and speeds and hazards do not exceed those encountered in normal driving on the road.
Seloc are an invited club to a number of events through the South of the country and will look to expand on this as interest builds. For more information please see here:

Sprinting and Hill Climbs
For many the first foray into competitive motorsport, and one that requires a little more preparation than Autosolos.
Hill Climbs and Sprints are two very similar disciplines of motor sport. Events take place on smooth prepared surfaces and are solely a test of a driver’s ability on setting the fastest time over a measured distance. The only general difference is that generally sprints take place on flat venues such as airfields whereby Hill Climbs, occur on hill courses of varying gradients.
You are not wheel to wheel racing as each car starts separately, although there may be up to three cars on the course at any one time. In general entry events a wide variety of cars compete, from single-seaters to standard production saloons, divided into classes by types and engine capacity and forced induction weighting. In general whatever type of Lotus you have, in whatever state of modification and tune you will be able to compete.
Venues range from disused airfields to permanent racing circuits and from picturesque private estates to seaside promenades.

Racing a Lotus
Members support and attend many race series that feature Lotus cars.
SELOC has from the outset supported the Lotus on Track Racing Drivers Club Elise Trophy. Not only is this series set up and run by some of those who founded SELOC, but many SELOC members are taking part. The Elise Trophy series was launched in 2007 in conjunction with MSVR – the racing club division of Motor Sport Vision – owners of Brands Hatch and other major UK circuits. LoTRDC aims to provide a friendly, safe and financially viable series for those wishing to progress from attending LoT track days into racing.
Lotus on Track Racing Drivers Club also took over organisation of the World’s only official Lotus race series: Lotus Cup Europe on behalf of Group Lotus. 2011 saw the launch of a new
Lotus Motorsport Championship; the Lotus Cup UK. Many of the drivers that compete in the Championship series are SELOC members and initially cut their teeth in the Elise Trophy.
2011 has also seen our members on the international stage within the Dubai 24hr and Barcelona 24hr races.
Production BMW Championship
Before there was a race series that was tailored towards our fantastic cars our members branched out to form a cheap and accessible entry level motorsport series and in April 2004 the Production BMW Championship was established. The races are very entertaining and the budgets are considered to be very cheap for this type of close racing. SELOC continues to follow the series so watch out for the dates, see www.pbmwc.co.uk for more details.
Track Days
One of the joys of Lotus ownership is the knowledge that our cars are designed to be used on track. To that end our members consistently attend trackdays throughout the UK and Europe. Should you wish to venture out on track there is a whole wealth of knowledge within our members and forum. With regions routinely attending events en-mass there should always be a friendly face and ear to bend.
Whilst SELOC no longer organises its own days we have strong ties with Lotus-on-Track and often have special deals for trackday novices advertised through the SELOC forum. See here for more information.
